From arguably the easiest routine to definitely the most difficult. It was towards the end of a long day and the cast was flagging, but after a few takes (15!) we got there and Peter Dorelli finished off the greatest round of cocktails ever. Like all the sequences, this had to be done in a single shot, no edits or cutaways. This meant that even though we added lots of computer trickery, Peter had to get everything right in one continual take. First he had to catch the Ketel One Flip (which we dropped into his hand), watch the ice diamond drop into the rocks glass to finish off the Old Fashioned (which Gary pours from above), then reach over to the Martini (which Angus started) that had scrolled down the page. It was all beautifully timed, so that the whole thing ran like clockwork. Then, right at the end when you think it’s all over, our young bartender rocks up out of nowhere, grabs a cocktail stick and stabs the video player scroller like an olive to show that the World Class Competition is about individuality, creativity and flair.
I didn’t know what I was in for…my coordination was really seriously put to the test! For some reason my dreams now nclude falling ice cubes and being attacked by shakers from above! Thanks guys you have enriched my life experience considerably. I had a great day with some special friends and must say I enjoyed watching the final production.
