You know a bartender knows his bar intimately when he can catch a shaker without looking. Michael makes it look easy but we gave him a little help. A shaker was dropped into his hand from a short distance and using digital effects and a 3D computer model of a shaker, the effect became much more impressive (sorry Michael). The Ketel One Flip is then given a final vigorous shake, but in the film he shakes it so hard the entire screen shakes with it. We created this effect right at the end, by animating the entire screen to match the movement of Michael. Then as he sits the shaker down on the bar, it wobbles out the frame. We did this in post production by mixing separate footage of a spinning cocktail shaker. A simple effect but at the end of a long day it still took five takes.
What a lovely day that was!
Although waking up early is not what I do best, meeting old friends and making some new motivated me to skip breakfast and rush to the studios where everything took place.
A brilliant idea for this ad came to reality with the help of an amazing crew that had to put up with seven primadonnas in their finest hour….
A good eighteen hours later packed with plenty of laughs, catching up and the odd pint, found us all celebrating at Simon’s HQ, trying to capture the moves of Ueno San’s hard shake, listening to Peter’s wonderful stories and saying goodnights to those who had an early flight back home.
My shoulders still ache from that shake and my stomach hurts from the laughs and that fifth serving of the delicious crumble….
